Course 1
Foundations and Frameworks in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

The first course in the inquire certificate, “Foundations and Frameworks in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning” includes both a four day face to face Action Institute held May 5-8, and 13 weeks of online course activities.

Held at the University of Guelph, the Action Institute will be an immersive experience designed to introduce participants to the goals of the inquire certificate, foundational concepts and skills in the scholarship of teaching and learning and to the cohort of learners taking part. Participants are responsible for their own transportation, accommodations and meals during the Action Institute.

The 13 weeks of online course activities support the collaborative development of a research question in the scholarship of teaching and learning, the exploration of methodologies and ethical issues and the production of a research proposal. These online course activities will include both individual and collaborative work and will be supported by instructors from Open Learning and Educational Support.

  3. Identify the characteristics of a good question in the SoTL
  4. Evaluate appropriate methodologies for the SoTL research questions
  5. Predict and plan for ethical considerations of the proposed SoTL research
